TooJay's Reuben Sandwich...and West Palm Beach

Since I have not made anything in the last few days that is worthwhile to post...due the bad lighting at night for photo taking, I will brag about TooJay's Gourmet Deli. Their Reuben Sandwich is still the BEST...ever, of any deli that you can mention, and they are located, right here in South Florida, and throughout various N. Florida, and West Coast Florida!

I have this passion for thirty years now, and still can't quite shake it...for Reuben Sandwich! It is basically a corned beef sandwich, on rye, with Russian dressing, Swiss cheese, and of course the yummy sauer kraut, grilled to perfection, with the cheese melting, and combining the flavors. You can't just skimp on the corned beef, you have to really pile it high! A side  of coleslaw, dill pickles, and french fries fruit salad, and you're "good to go, on your holiday shopping, errands, or what have you, after a Saturday early lunch!
How could you possibly resist a comforting sandwich like the Reuben?...so filling, hardy, yummy, and delicious. I rarely eat a Reuben sandwich these days, but when I do, I always, but always order it from TooJay's!
My friend ordered a cup of Matzo Ball soup, and a scoop of Egg Salad, on half a sandwich. She said it was very good...and from the looks of it, not to mention that they are famous for their egg salad, their tuna salad, chicken salad, and various other salads, as well!
Just a few minutes from our location, on the Island of Palm Beach, tucked away in this famous little Shopping Center, in Royal Poinciana Way, where all the local Palm Beachers, and from over the bridge, in West Palm, locals frequent this famous deli, that has been around for over 30 years, that I know about...and maybe longer!
So, what did I tell you?...yes, it's really tucked away! You could hardly see the sign, or the entrance, but I assure you, if you ask anyone, they will direct you right here if you can't find it!
Next to our car, I noticed this cute little car, which I thought was a golf cart!
On the curb, was sitting a local worker, munching on his sandwich assured me, that this isn't a golf cart, it's some kind of an expensive little recreational car, used around town...go figure, what do I know about the different types of vehicles, anyway!
I took this photo from the car, while stopping at the red light (of course at the passenger side)...looking at the famous Biltmore Hotel, from years, and years ago, which is now a Condominium!
Route through Flagler Drive, now in West Palm Beach, leaving TooJay's! On the right is the Intracoastal Waterway, that divides West Palm Beach, from Palm Beach!
Leaving TooJay's. and driving over one of the bridges, dividing West Palm Beach, from Palm Beach...West Palm Beach, is of course, west of the island, which is called Palm Beach, and they are both part of the Palm Beach County. On the right is the Intracoastal Waterway!
Driving through a well known West Palm Beach neighborhood, to downtown West Palm Beach, to stop at the Public Library! As you can see, our city takes pride of their clean streets, well manicured lawns, their homes, and well preserved old neighborhoods.

One of the entrances (side entrance) to the library!...no, that's not me in the photo, just a local on a warm Saturday early afternoon, in November!

I was already pre-warned by my daughter "don't you dare take a picture of us!"...OK, "I won't"...didn't promise that I wouldn't take a picture from far behind, while the two were walking to the library, from across the street! You can also park on the street for $1.00 which will cover an hour, or for free inside the garage, if you have a "token"
(a chip)
People walking their little dogs in the smaller section of the city, where local shops and  the library is located!

Sign, showing the way to the Green Market, which is located by the Intracoastal Waterway!

The Kids' section f the library, on the second floor. They have 4 floors of books, DVD movies, computer rooms, classes, etc.
So, there I was sitting in the waiting room, with some of the books we were checking out! BTW, I will be purchasing this Gelato book from Amazon, as well!
Just one of the events, sponsored by the Public Library (sorry we missed that)
That's all for now, I hope everyone has a wonderful, and enjoyable peaceful weekend! Hugs, to all!

Restaurant Review, Pets...and Awards!

This is organic green iced tea, served in a glass, and a separate carafe $2.50
As you can see, I'm having a better week this week, thanks to all of your kind words of encouragement, I thought about each and every comment that you posted, and it made me feel so happy that you shared with me. I do have two posts from this week, but I'm saving it for another day to post it...instead, I thought this would be more fun and versatile!

So, I get a call from my daughter, the other day from Lora, (cake duchess) asking me if I want to go to get a "quick bite" for lunch...OK, I'm thinking, she's asking me at the last minute, not giving me time to even get ready, just to jump in the car and go with her, thinking, she wants to go to the Bagel place downtown, that is a very casual trendy breakfast and lunch place where they make the most amazing bagels, and the service is great, no waiting, and you are in-and-out in no time. She says, "we're going to Joy's Noodles"...what the heck is Joy's Noodles? Oh, it's an Asian "mom and pop" little place, for lunch and dinner...no reservation required, and it's around the corner! OK...how come I didn't know about this place when I pass by almost eerie day?...oh, it's "low key"...they never advertise, and the place is always packed, because of the great food, amazing owners, service, and great staff! Well, that explains it all!

This is the menu for Joy's Noodles

located at:
2200 S. Dixie Highway
West Palm Beach, Fl. 33401

A beautiful sunny Wednesday, on the right is the main street, which is S. Dixie Highway, and on the left, is the back of the building which is the parking, You can enter from either side of the building. I took this photo quickly, on the way out. We were really in a rush, and a fabulous fresh and warm lunch was served within about 25 minutes...I kid you not!

As you can see, I ordered a Sautéed Spicy Khmer
Noodles, with squid, $14.95
Udon noodles, with a mixture of spices and herbs, and let me tell you, this was the freshest, and most succulent squid I've ever had, with the most amazing spicy sauce...not overly spicy, but just right, with a mixture of vegetables of scallions, carrots, and tiny broccoli florets...yumm! oh, so delicious!

Now that I've taken a closer look, there were of course chili pepper flakes, as well, and edemame too!
I shared some of the pasta with Lora, as she shared her rice and tofu with me!

The best thing about the noodles, and the rice dishes, is that you get to choose about about 8 different sauces, vegetables, and combination of chicken, beef, and seafood with your sauce. So many choices!

Lora chose the White Rice, with Mixed Vegetables, and Tofu, in a Lemongrass Coconut Sauce...$11.95
so amazingly mellow, and absolutely divine!

LongBoards Restaurant Grand Opening!

First and most important, I would like to express my appreciation to all of you for all you kind comments, and support on my blog, If I have not done the same for you please let me know in e-mail and "chew me out" if I have not been supportive enough, I will try harder!
I am spending most of my days and nights here at my son's, while they are away in NYC, and upstate New York for 2 weeks. I do go home every day as well, to feed my kitties and spend a couple hours with them.
I'm sure they miss me, as I miss them, and things will be back to normal by next week. During the day, I spend my time at Lora's (daughter) who only lives a few blocks away. It's always an adventure with Lora and my grandchildren...so much fun. Every day there's always a project...can't alway keep up with them. They ar always on the go. If I would start telling you the day-to-day routine, it would take up an entire post for my blog, so I will share something which is quite unique....instead!
There was a new restaurant opening in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida, a couple weeks ago. I was anxiously waiting to go there with my son, Joe, and wife Cara, and a two buddies of my son. No children allowed becauce it was such a "madhouse" opening, and the place was packed like "sardines"...and why not?
(In the video, those kids must have been the owner's kids.)
All the appetizers were free, and you were allowed 2 or 3 free drinks. They handed you 2 or 4 genuine sea glass when you entered at the door...that was your token for the drinks that you gave back when they brought you the drinks.
In the meantime, as we arrived in West Palm Beach, there was an old car show right smack in the middle of
Clematis Road, downtown. They were featuring cars from the fifties and sixties...of course my favorite was a beautiful red Chevy, I think from 1967...will get to that, as I am taking you on the tour. These were all the pictures that I took with my camera. The theme for "Longboards" is really about a surfer restaurant, tha is one and only in Palm Beach County. My son's artwork on surfboards that is his side hobby is all shown here.
They are all hanging, and adorning this cool place. We'll get to that also!
You'll have to forgive me, I have no idea of the make of these cars, I only know so far that the very first car oln top of the page is a 1959 Cadillac...they sure don't make cars like that any more, with all the expensive chrome and beautiful workmanship...OK...moving on!
I think this is a 1955 Buick...but I could be wrong!
I love this car the most...always have. A 1967 SS Chevy!
Wow...just look at the engine of this "baby"...need I say more?
Now that's a cool old Chevy truck!
Now, the fun begins...this is the entrance of the restaurant...as you can see, there's also a band outside across from the restaurant!
This is the first surf board that was hanging on the wall as we entered. Sargent Pepper, The Beatles, is feautered on here. My son Joe designed and painted these surfboards (but not the nude woman surfboard in the video)...Joe just came up with this concept a couple years ago. He is a fantastic artist, and writer. He published his first novel, and is working on the second.
This is the second surf board...A Hawaiian design!
This is one of my favorite of my son's work. I love the ocean view...the little people, and the palm trees!
